Avery was very active and awake today while we were there. She is still growing somewhat and only getting a tiny amount of food, but seems to be doing pretty good despite taking the neoprofin. It's not clear if the drug has made a difference for her either, so we may end up needing both girls to have a surgery to take care of that once they are both feeling a bit better. Avery opened her eyes up wider than I've ever seen today. Also, she tolerated eating food today and actually digested it for the first time. That's a great step for her!
We love our babies. It makes me feel great to hear my kids talk about their baby sisters and to say perfect little prayers for them, like when Penny asks God for "Wen" to fight her sickness and for "Avewy's" brain to stop bleeding. Like our kids, we trust in God that things will work out for them according to his plan and in his time. While we don't yet know what that will mean for their future, we will hold out hope that the very best can and will occur, and will take whatever comes.
Oh Kevin!! It's hard for me to hear about Wren, but I had a really hopeful talk with Katherine Holyoak tonight so I'll share what she told me. You likely already know this, but I didn't. The doctor at Mckay D. in Ogden showed them a model of 24-25 week old brain. At that point in development, it's sort like a jelly bean. It hasn't developed valleys like a well developed human brain. When bleeding happens this early, the human body adapts. It develops other pathways. The neurons often develop new routes because the brain is still pretty plastic. Of course, real damage can and does happen, but all is not lost-- especially with a level two bleed. I am still hopeful any damage for Wren will be minimal. I love you so much! I pray for you always!! Mom
ReplyDeleteThanks, mom. Honestly, I've been a big reluctant to do much of my own research so far about statistics simply because I was afraid what I would find would discourage me. A couple of doctors have talked to us about plasticity though, and so we remain hopeful that her body will be able to overcome the effects.
DeleteWe pray for all of you every day! And made sure to put all your names in the temple. Thank you for keeping everyone up to date, we love to read and keep up with their progress!
